Caring for goldfish is something everyone can do. The only required thing is time and research. Like all pets people care of, they need to know a lot of things about their pet to really care for it. You need to know what they eat, what to do not to make them sick, how to cure diseases and in general, provide everything so that your pet will be yours for years to come.

Goldfish live in water and that makes caring for them harder than other pets like cats or dogs. To be able to maintain a high quality water you need to own a big aquarium. Goldfish are very dirty fish and having a large aquariums means more water per goldfish resulting a less toxic water. You will need at least a 10-15 gallons of water for every goldfish you buy or own.

It is really hard to keep goldfish as pets in small 2 or 3 gallon tank or goldfish bowls. The water becomes so toxic that it is impossible to make it healthy for your goldfish. What do goldfish eat is also another question people ask themselves when they buy goldfish. The answer is always in the goldfish flakes. It is said that they contain everything your goldfish needs. What you should know is that they contain little or no fibers. The best food for goldfish is the fresh household fool. These are vegetables and fruit like cooked peas, beans, corn, rice, cucumber, carrots, orange, grape etc. These contain all the minerals, vitamins and fibers the goldfish needs.

Cleaning your tank and changing water are to important factors that maintain a high quality water. Remember to remove the uneaten food after you feed your goldfish. To do this efficiently, feed your goldfish once a day what it can eat in 2 minutes. This way goldie eats well and you have less uneaten food to remove. Clean your tank gravel once a month. Do weekly 25% water changes to keep the water quality high.
