Feeding your goldfish is not a hard thing to do. The thing is that there still is a lot of room for mistakes. The online goldfish forums are crowded with topics of goldfish that get sick because of something resulted from feeding. You will learn how to prevent these problems or how to change the things you used to do if you are not doing them right.

The main problems that can occur from goldfish feeding have as a result your goldfish getting sick. This can be of the food it eats or the food that gets into the water. The easiest to cure of diseases is the Swim Bladder disorder. Some symptoms your goldfish will have if it suffers from this disease is the popular swimming upside-down or/and gulping at the surface, not swimming at all.

Another very big problem that results from feeding is the food that is left in the tank. This food will increase the ammonia levels in your water. If the ammonia level increases in the water this means your goldfish will suffer ammonia burns and you need to do regular water changes and apply treatment as soon as possible. Your goldfish will be back in good health in no time if you know what is the problem and act fast.

To prevent diseases you need to know the how, what and when of goldfish feeding. You need to feed your goldfish only once a day and what it can eat in 2 minutes. More than that and you will overfeed your goldfish. This will end up with the swim bladder disorder.

To keep ammonia levels low you must clean your tank of uneaten food. Of course, you still need to do weekly water changes to have a high quality water. Remember to always remove the uneaten food from your tank.

What you feed your goldfish is also a very important factor. If you feed your goldfish only goldfish flakes, chances are that your goldfish will not feel to good over the day. What you can feed your goldfish and what all goldfish experts recommend is the fresh food. Household fresh vegetables and fruit are great for your goldfish to be happy and healthy. These contain the fibers, minerals and vitamins the flakes do not.

Very helpful! I love my goldfish but I am a bit of a "newb" and want to make sure they are healthy and happy. Are their any fruits/vegetables in particular that are better for them?
